SHANGHAI, China: Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton has backed Formula 1 to make the “right” move over next month’s scheduled races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, PA Media/dpa reported.
The conflict in West Asia places the fourth and fifth rounds of the sport’s new season – which are due to take place on April 12 and April 19 – in major doubt.
It is understood a decision to cancel both races could be determined as early as this weekend.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix, the seven-time world champion said: “I know that (F1 CEO) Stefano (Domenicali) will do what is right for all of us and the sport. That is the great thing with having a great leader like him.”
Should both races be cancelled, it is highly unlikely that they would be replaced, leaving F1 with a five-week gap between the rounds in Japan on March 29 and the Miami Grand Prix on May 3. – BERNAMA-PA MEDIA/dpa
