KUCHING: A man was jailed three months on Monday for stealing a handbag at a petrol station near Jalan Song, here.
Amil Yet, 39, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
The court ordered him to serve his sentence from the date of his arrest on July 18.
Amil stole who stole the handbag belonging to a 31-year-old woman at about 7.20pm on July 15 was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code which provides for a prison term of up to seven years or a fine or both.
According to the facts of the case, at the time of the incident the victim was at the station to fill up her motorcycle tank.
While the victim was paying for the fuel at the counter, Amil came on a motorcycle and took the victim’s handbag placed in the front basket of her motorcycle.
Among the stolen items inside the handbag were an identity card, a bank card, a driver’s licence and a mobile phone.
The victim then made a police report which led to his arrest.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while Amil was not represented.
