KUCHING: National Muaythai champion, Hasbullah Mood, is confident of successfully defending his WBC Bantamweight National Title for the third time when he competes in the upcoming RENTAP Fighting Championship 7.0 (RENTAP FC7), scheduled to take place from January 16 to 18.
Hasbullah is set to face Wassof Rumijam, the gold medallist at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, in what is expected to be one of the headline bouts of the tournament.
Expressing confidence ahead of the title defence, Hasbullah said he has prepared thoroughly despite facing a tight training schedule.
“God-willing, I am confident. I have put in the effort and trained properly, and we will prove it on Saturday night,” he said during a press conference here today.
He admitted that preparation had been challenging, as he had only about a month to train.
“To be honest, one month of training is difficult. The schedule was very tight, and we had to manage our diet early on,” he said.
Hasbullah added that his preparation went beyond physical conditioning and focused heavily on mental strength.
“The physical preparation is there and has been incorporated into training. It’s not just about kicking or absorbing kicks, mental endurance is just as important,” he said.
Commenting on the possibility of pursuing more championship belts or taking on other titleholders in the future, Hasbullah said such decisions would depend on organisers and his management team.
“For title fights, we will see what opportunities come. It depends on the organisers and our management. If we are offered a title fight, we are ready to fight for the title,” he said.
For the record, Hasbullah made history in 2024 as the first Sarawakian to capture the WBC MuayThai Malaysia National Bantamweight title and went on to successfully defend the belt in 2025.
