BINTANGOR: Hawkers at the Tamu Market and Hawker Centre here took their grouses to Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii during his walkabout there recently.

He has since called for action to ensure they can conduct their businesses in a better, safer and more orderly environment.

The hawkers, he said, took the opportunity to raise various issues concerning facilities, the surrounding environment and their daily operational needs at the hawker centre, he said in a statement Wednesday.

In this regard, he urged the Meradong and Julau District Council (MDMJ) to follow up on the issues raised and work towards resolving matters under the local authority’s jurisdiction.

“If there are matters requiring allocations or action from other parties, we will try to assist and bring them to the relevant level,” he said.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to continue paying attention to the needs of the local community, including hawkers and small traders who play an important role in driving the local economy.

“The government wants to ensure that development is not only focused on major projects but also benefits people who run small businesses and earn their livelihoods every day. We will continue to listen to the people and strive to find the best solutions,” he said.
