KUCHING: The Kuching and Samarahan Hawker and Trader Association has called on the federal government to reconsider and abolish the proposed e-invoicing requirement for businesses with an annual turnover between RM150,000 and RM500,000.
In a statement following its 48th annual general meeting (AGM), the association said many small traders and hawkers would struggle to comply due to limited technological skills and resources.
“Enforcing this requirement would unnecessarily burden small businesses that are already operating on tight margins,” the statement added.
The association also expressed concern over the impact of recent tariffs imposed by the United States, warning that the move could dampen business sentiment and slow down trade activities.
It advised members to manage their stock levels carefully in preparation for possible business slowdowns.
Meanwhile, the association thanked the Sarawak government for introducing the ‘Sumbangan Keperluan Asas Sarawak’ (SKAS) aid, which offers between RM250 and RM800 depending on eligibility.
It also welcomed the decision to provide free tertiary education at Sarawak-owned universities and colleges starting from 2026.
“This visionary policy will significantly ease the financial burden on our members, making higher education more accessible for their children and families,” the statement said.
