KUCHING: The Rimbun International Sematan Run 2026 has been cancelled after hazardous air quality raised concerns over the safety of runners and event personnel.

The organising committee said the event, originally scheduled for Sunday (Sept 6), would not proceed due to the ongoing haze and Air Pollutant Index (API) reaching hazardous levels.

“The decision was made as a precautionary measure to safeguard the health and safety of all participants, crew, volunteers, partners and everyone involved in the event,” it said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 2).

Despite the cancellation, registered participants may still collect their race packs on the previously announced dates and times.

The committee said registration fees would not be refunded as race packs, participants’ entitlements and other event preparations had already been committed and produced.

Further details on race pack collection and other arrangements will be announced through the event’s official channels.
