KUCHING: Football certainly brings people together, and it most certainly did at the Sarawak State Stadium last night (Feb 14).

At half-time, Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, clad in Kuching City FC jerseys and jackets, beamed as they waved and acknowledged the cheering crowd.

The duo then joined a spirited “March of Unity” around the stadium, culminating in them lifting the “Unity” scarf in front of more than 10,000 fans.

They were joined by Kuching City FC chairman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, club chief executive officer (CEO) Iswandi Ali Hassan and the SMK St Joseph Kuching marching band, while thousands of fans cheered passionately for both the Governor and the beloved Cats, filling the stadium with passion and affection.

The celebrations were made even sweeter by a historic 6-2 aggregate win over Borneo rivals, DPMM Brunei FC, sending Kuching City FC through to the Malaysia Cup semi-finals.

Adding to this blissful occasion, just before the final whistle, fireworks lit up the stadium, amplifying the excitement of the night.

Football is a game of passion, and last night, fans showed that their love extended not only to the team but also to their Head of State.
