KUCHING: Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, along with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, attended the Sarawak Maulidur Rasul Thanksgiving Event for 1447H/2025M held at the Sarawak State Mosque last night (Thursday).
Upon their arrival at 6:30 pm, they were warmly received by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department of Sarawak (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Hall, and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, the minister responsible for the event, and his wife, Datin Siti Shorgayah Ahmad Zaidin.
The event commenced with the Maghrib prayer, followed by the recitation of Yaasin, led by the Chief Imam of Sarawak, Sahibul Fadilah Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.
Following this, the congregation listened to a special sermon (tazkirah khas) by the Mufti of Sarawak, Sahibus Samahah Datuk Kipli Yassin, titled ‘Akhlak Asas Ummah Maju Makmur’ (Ethics as the Foundation for a Prosperous and Progressive Community).
The sermon highlighted the exemplary conduct of Prophet Muhammad SAW and stressed the importance of embracing his teachings to build a virtuous and united society.
The ceremony continued with the Isyak prayer in congregation, followed by a Marhaban Zikir performance by the Kuching Division Zikir Group, led by Datuk Ismawi Duet.
The event was further honoured by the presence of distinguished state and federal leaders, including Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof; and Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, and his wife.
Also present was H.E. Neak Oknha Datuk Dr Othsman Hassan, Senior Minister responsible for Special Islamic Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Before leaving, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah joined other dignitaries for a dinner reception.
Also present to greet them were President of the Sarawak Islamic Council, Datuk Misnu Taha; Resident of Kuching Division, Dayang Joanita Azizah Abang Morshidi; and the Chief Executive Officer of Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Masjid Negeri Sarawak (LAKMNS), Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai.
The Sarawak Maulidur Rasul Thanksgiving Ceremony was an important occasion to strengthen unity, celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW, and promote harmony among the diverse communities in the state.
