KUCHING: The Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, graced the ‘Sarawak Countdown 2026: Let’s Celebrate Together’ New Year’s Eve celebration, which was held in a lively atmosphere at the Kuching Waterfront on Wednesday night.
Wan Junaidi and Fauziah arrived at 11:30 pm, accompanied by their daughters, Sharifah Fariah, Sharifah Nong-Jasima with her husband, Muhammad Nur Hakeem, as well as Sharifah Nuril Barieyah.

They were warmly received by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who represented the Premier of Sarawak, together with his wife, Datin Amar Enn Ong Siok Ean, and Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP), Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who also serves as the Minister-in-Charge of the 2026 New Year Countdown celebration.
The festivities, which began earlier in the evening, featured a line-up of cultural and entertainment performances, highlighted by special appearances from KRU, Dayang Nurfaizah and renowned Indonesian star, Judika.
The celebration also saw the official New Year countdown to 2026, followed by a synchronised laser, light and fireworks display that illuminated the Kuching Waterfront skyline, symbolising Sarawak’s readiness to step confidently into the new year.
In a statement, Wan Junaidi expressed his gratitude for the vibrant and joyous celebration, and prayed that Sarawak will continue to be blessed with lasting prosperity, unity among its people, and enduring peace and well-being.
Their presence reflected the State leadership’s continued support for inclusive programmes that bring together people of various races and backgrounds in a spirit of harmony and togetherness as Sarawak welcomes the new year.
