KUCHING: Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, paid their last respects to the late Datuk Dr Madeline Berma at her family home in Kampung Siol Kandis, Petra Jaya, this morning (Jan. 1).

Madeline, a renowned Sarawak-born economist and academic, passed away at the age of 67 at her residence in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor, on December 30.

The couple were received by the deceased’s immediate family members in a sombre atmosphere upon their arrival.

During the visit, Wan Junaidi and his wife spent time with the family to personally convey their condolences.

He shared that the late Madeline’s father was known to him during their time serving together in the police force.

Describing her passing as a great loss not only to Sarawak but also to the nation, he said her contributions in development economics and advocacy for marginalised communities had helped shape important policies over the years.

He stated that Sarawak has lost a highly dedicated figure whose legacy and commitment would long be remembered.

Wan Junaidi and his wife also prayed that the family be granted strength, resilience and peace as they endure this difficult time.
