BINTULU: Longhouse leaders bear a collective responsibility to ensure that all residents in their respective longhouses fulfil their civic duty by participating in the upcoming Jepak by-election on Nov 4.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) vice president Datuk John Sikie Tayai stressed the crucial role of voter support in electing the future representative of the Jepak constituency, who will carry on the legacy of its former assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip.

“November 4 is a crucial date. Therefore, I advise that the longhouse chiefs are the last to go to the polling centres to ensure that all residents in their longhouses cast their votes,” he said.

He told this to the media during the “Randau Bersama Pemimpin” programme at Rumah Sam Sumbang in Sungai Mas, Jalan Bintulu-Tatau today (Oct 26).

Earlier in his speech, Sikie who serves as Minister in the Premier’s Department underscored the importance of the Iban community’s backing, despite their representation comprising just 35 per cent of the total voters in the state constituency.

“The support of the Dayak community is evidence that we are all united and working together with the government,” he added.
