KUCHING: All traders at the Ramadan Bazaar are required to undergo health screenings and receive typhoid vaccinations to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the food sold to the public.
Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said this measure is essential to prevent foodborne diseases that could endanger the health of bazaar visitors.
“In addition to ensuring the food sold is clean and of good quality, traders must also receive typhoid vaccinations as a precaution against infectious diseases,” he said during the Satok Ramadan Bazaar opening ceremony at which he represented Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg here Sunday (March 2).
The Ramadan Bazaar, organised in collaboration with the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), will operate until March 30, featuring 94 stalls, consisting of 72 food stalls, 18 beverage stalls and four grilling stalls.
Apart from traders’ health requirements, Dr Abdul Rahman also emphasised the importance of cleanliness and proper food waste management at the bazaar to prevent pollution.
“Traders are responsible for keeping their business areas clean. Food waste must be properly managed to prevent health issues for the public,” he said.
Additionally, he advised visitors to adhere to traffic regulations to avoid congestion around the bazaar.
As part of efforts to assist those in need, the bazaar launch event also included donations to underprivileged groups (asnaf) to ease their burdens during Ramadan.
According to him, this initiative aims not only to provide financial assistance but also to ensure the less fortunate can experience the spirit of Ramadan like everyone else.
Also present at the event was Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki.
