KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) intends to further enhance and expand the range of services provided by the Prima Health Centre in the coming years.
Vice Chancellor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit said as a public university, Unimas continually strives to be a leader in producing research and innovation relevant to the needs of society.
“The establishment of this Prima Health Centre is yet another tangible proof of the university’s commitment to contributing to Sarawak’s development, in line with the aspirations of Sarawak Maju Makmur.
“In the coming years, we plan to further expand the services offered by this Prima Health Centre. With continued support from the state and federal governments, we are confident in bringing greater transformation to the health sector in this state.
“Our goal is to ensure that every level of society, regardless of background, has access to high-quality healthcare,” he said.
He said this while officiating at the Prima Health Centre in the Unimas Teaching Hospital grounds here on Wednesday.
He said in the post-pandemic era, the importance of public health can no longer be underestimated.
“Thus, the Unimas Prima Health Centre will serve as a platform to implement various innovative and holistic health initiatives, including health screening programmes and health education.
“We believe this centre can become a key reference point for raising health awareness among the community. For example, free health screening programmes and regular health talks can help enhance public understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle,” he added.
Dr Ahmad Hata said that in addition to offering health services, the Prima Health Centre also provides specialised services in ENT, Respiratory, Radiology, and a Family Medicine Specialist laboratory.
“Furthermore, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed today with Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) will see BMC referring patients with respiratory issues to the Prima Health Centre,” he said.
