MIRI: Heavy rainfalls continued in most parts in the Northern Region during the weekend, affecting more than 12,000 people and six schools in four districts.  

According to the Miri Disaster Management Committee (MDMC), 49 areas from four districts in this region, namely Subis, Beluru , Marudi and Telang Usan, have been affected.

The water level of most rivers in these areas have increased in the past few days following heavy rains while some remained unchanged yesterday (Wednesday, September 17 at 10am).

In Marudi and Long Teru, the water levels – from 3.35 metres to 7.35 metres high, were above the danger level.

However, no evacuation shelters have opened yet at the moment.
