KUALA LUMPUR: HELP University has formalised a strategic partnership with Borneo Empurau Farm and Resort Sdn Bhd to strengthen educational, professional and research initiatives for communities in Sarawak.

According to a statement, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at HELP University by representatives of both organisations, including Borneo Empurau Farm and Resort chairman and founder Datuk Dr Yong Fook Heng.

The agreement marks a joint commitment to advancing human capital development through executive education, professional training, staff development and collaborative research.

Under the partnership, both institutions will design and deliver programmes that cater to industry needs, offering new learning opportunities for professionals, educators and local communities, particularly in Kuching, Serian and Samarahan.

Dr Yong said the collaboration holds significant potential for long-term regional impact, given the resort’s strategic location between Kuching and Serian.

He said the partnership would serve as a hub for educational outreach, community development and specialised training.

“This MoU marks a significant milestone for both HELP University and Borneo Empurau Farm and Resort.

“Our goal is to empower local communities and industries with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in an increasingly competitive and innovative environment,” he said.

HELP University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Andy Liew said the collaboration reflects the institution’s belief in the power of education to uplift communities.

“This partnership is not just about training in hospitality, agro-industry or digital skills. It is about offering opportunity, renewal, and hope to individuals seeking a second chance.

“This collaboration allows us to put that belief into meaningful action,” he said.

HELP University said the partnership aligns with its mission to expand its footprint in East Malaysia, support workforce upskilling, and foster research that contributes to economic and social development.

The collaboration also supports HELP University’s broader efforts to strengthen industry-academic linkages, especially with partners such as Borneo Empurau Farm and Resort, known for its work in innovative aquaculture and sustainable farming.

Programme development and joint activities under the MoU are expected to begin in the coming months.
