KUCHING: The Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) is hoping to attract no fewer than 8,000 runners from throughout the state to participate in its annual public awareness charity run this year.

The targeted figure is an additional 2,000 runners compared to the previous runs.

Themed “Colour Rush”, the run would be organised in conjunction with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September.

“After six years of successful and colourful runs, with total registrations of more than 6,000 yearly, the organisers are eager to get even more runners involved for Colour Rush 2019.

“We are looking at having 8,000 participants in total from Kuching, Miri and Sibu, where the runs will be held,” said SCCS in a media statement yesterday.

Through this run SCCS aims to raise awareness of childhood cancer in Sarawak among youths, encourage the public to participate in a fun-filled event for a meaningful cause, encourage the younger generation to demonstrate more understanding and empathy towards children with cancer, and raise funds to support childhood cancer patients and their families.

Through the effort, SCCS also hopes to instil responsibility and compassion within the general public as part of their contribution towards nation building.

The run will be flagged off in Sibu at Sibu Town Square on Sept 1 and at Saradise Kuching on Sept 15.

In Miri, it will be held at the Boulevard Shopping Mall (car park area) on Sept 22. The three runs will be flagged-off at 6.30am.

The run is open to individuals with a registration fee of RM48 and includes a race bib and coloured powder. Runners who complete the 5km fun run will receive an exclusive burnished-gold medal.

An early bird registration fee is being offered at RM40, up until July 31. From Aug 1 to 31, the normal registration fee of RM48 will apply.

Registration fee includes two packets of coloured powder and a race bib (may include vouchers depending on availability). The event t-shirt can be purchased separately.

The race bib is for the redemption of medals upon completion of the run, and also used for lucky draw redemption.

The launch of the event registration will be held online on June 29 at 2pm, and a special offer will be available where the first 100 registrations in Sibu, Kuching, and Miri each will be entitled to a special registration fee of RM30 instead of the early bird price of RM40.

Participants can register in person from June 30 onwards at all Lea Sports Centre and Lea Centre outlets in Sarawak.

Alternatively, participants here can register at the SCCS Centre (Kuching), which is open from Monday to Saturday, between 9am and 4pm.

In Miri, forms can be obtained and submitted to Somerset Hotel at No. 12 Kwang Tung Road, which is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm.
