COMPOSERS Ikhwan Fatanna and Wan Saleh delivered a stunning upset when their song “Hening Rindu”, performed by Marsha Milan, was crowned champion of the 39th Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL). The event was broadcast live on TV3 from Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, on Sunday night.

“Hening Rindu” triumphed over strong competition, beating favourites such as “Puas Sudah” by Aina Abdul, “Bukan Lagi Kita” by Nadeera, and “Diam” by Hael Husaini, all tipped as top contenders for the coveted trophy.

Ikhwan, Wan Saleh, and Marsha took home the trophy and a cash prize of RM100,000. Overwhelmed with emotion, Marsha struggled to hold back tears as she thanked everyone who had supported her throughout her journey.

The runner-up position went to “Bukan Lagi Kita”, performed by Nadeera Zaini, with composition and lyrics by Hael Husaini and Iqie Hugh. They received a trophy and a cash prize of RM50,000.

In third place was “Saksama”, performed by Akim & The Majistret, with music by the band and lyrics by Bunga Cantik. They took home RM30,000 and a trophy.

Meanwhile, the Best Performance award, also carrying a prize of RM12,000 and a trophy, was claimed by Aina Abdul for her heart-themed stage presentation.

AJL 39 was judged by a panel led by Edry Abdul Halim, with support from Edrie Hashim, Ed Samad, Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar, LY, Fauziah Latiff, Siti Hajar, Datuk Hattan, and Datuk Fauziah Nawi.

For over three decades, AJL has celebrated the local music industry, paying tribute to composers and lyricists. Recognised as a prestigious annual event, this year’s AJL highlighted “Nada Rasa” (Tone of Emotions) as its central concept and theme.

The event was hosted by Nazrudin Rahman and Sissy Imann, adding charm and energy to the night.

The show kicked off with an opening performance by Wani Kayrie, who sang “Cindai”, followed by Shiha Zikir with “Asmaradana”, Ara Johari with “Tak Ada Logika”, and Noki K-Clique with “Angkat”.
