SADONG JAYA: The design of the proposed Dataran Warisan Sadong Jaya has received international recognition from the Sweden-based International Academy for Design and Health (IADH).
Rural and Regional Development Deputy Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang said the heritage square, to be located at the Sadong Jaya Waterfront, is one of five tourism development projects worth a combined RM31 million planned for the area.
“The design for Dataran Warisan Sadong Jaya recently won the International Design, Green and Hub award, and the award will be presented on Oct 1.
“The building design has been recognised at the international level,” she was quoted as saying in a report by TVS.
She said this after chairing the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA) Socio-Economic Development Committee project meeting at the Batang Sadong Service Centre here yesterday (Sept 15).
Also present was Infrastructure and Port Development Deputy Minister Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.
Rubiah said the five projects are part of plans to transform Sadong Jaya into a heritage-based tourism destination while generating socioeconomic benefits for the local community.
They include a waterfront equipped with an observation tower, a community bazaar and Dataran Warisan Sadong Jaya, as well as two other components.
“The main purpose is not merely to beautify the area, but to bring socioeconomic value to Sadong Jaya.
“Overall, these projects have received approval from IRSDA, including the selection of their sites.
“What we are discussing now concerns the designs and approval from the Sarawak Building Design Committee (SBDC) at the state government level,” she said.
Rubiah said the developments could open up more opportunities for locals to participate in tourism-related economic activities.
She added that the new attractions and community facilities could draw more visitors to Sadong Jaya, benefiting local businesses and the surrounding community.
The projects are currently focused on design and securing the necessary construction approvals, with implementation targeted to begin as early as next year.
Rubiah said cooperation among government agencies, local authorities and other stakeholders would be crucial to ensuring the projects could proceed as planned.
Meanwhile, Aidel said the award presentation for the Dataran Warisan design would be held at the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) building on Oct 1.
He also called on all agencies involved to work closely together to ensure the five projects are implemented according to schedule.
