KUCHING: Hero Bowling Sarawak successfully defended their championship title at the Sarawak Hornbill Team Cup Tenpin Bowling Championship (SHTC).

The tournament, which concluded at Megalanes Sarawak, Emart Batu Kawa on Sunday (Feb 1), featured 40 teams, including international participants from Hong Kong, Singapore Sports School and Brunei, as well as teams from across Malaysia.

The team, comprising captain and team manager Melvin Gilbert Gimang, Chong Jun Foo, Bong Kihow and Daniel Tan Han Yan, accumulated 40 points over four days of competition.

Entering the final day with 30 points and tied for second place with Sunway Megalanes A, Hero Bowling knocked down a total of 1,397 pins to finish second in the Baker 4 Dual Battle behind Four Of A Kind (1,417). This earned them 10 points and brought their overall tally to 40 points, securing the challenge cup for the second consecutive year.

Meanwhile, MSNS-ABAS Sarawak 1 placed second overall with 37 points, while Sunway Megalanes A and Sunway Megalanes B finished third and fourth with 30 and 27 points respectively.

MSNS-ABAS Sarawak 1 received RM5,000 and medals, while Sunway Megalanes A and B took home RM3,000 with medals and RM1,000 with medals respectively.

Bong said the team’s success was largely due to strong teamwork and communication.

He said they faced intense pressure competing against top bowlers but remained motivated and united throughout the championship.

“Communication was key. We trusted each other and made precise shots,” he said, describing the competition as challenging right up to the final match.

He and his teammates expressed satisfaction with their results and optimism about defending the challenge cup again next year.

The prizes were presented by Sarawak Amateur Tenpin Bowling Association (ABAS) president Sunny Si Poh Heng, ABAS deputy president Saifulbahri Shukri and Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) secretary Maradona Chok.
