KUCHING: Hero Bowling bowled their way to victory, clinching the overall championship at the Sarawak Hornbill Team Cup 2025 and walking away with a cash prize of RM10,000 on Feb 16.
Taking place at Megalanes Sarawak, the elite squad overcame two formidable contenders, Sunway Megalanes B and Sunway Megalanes A, who were left to settle for second and third place in the fierce competition.
Sunway Megalanes B, the runner-up, earned RM5,000, while Sunway Megalanes A finished third with RM3,000. Wipers A secured fourth place and took home RM1,000.
Hero Bowling, composed of local Sarawak talents, was captained by Bong Kihow, along with teammates Chong Jun Foo, Daniel Tan Yan Han, and Melvin Gilbert Gimang.
Sunway Megalanes B featured players Abang Afiq Yazid Abang Azman, Musayyar Khalid, Ahmad Aidil Abdul Halim, and Lavinia Kho Jia Jie.
Sunway Megalanes A was made up of Matthew Ong Tzi Ming, Johnathan Chan Tian Sheng, Mohd Zharfan Shahidi @ Shaharani, and Prasert Anansathaporn.
The young and promising Wipers A team included Muhammad Amin Syimir Safri, Muhammad Aiman Farhan Nor Fuzi, Amin Zulkarnain Zulkifli, and Muhammad Fauzal Aziem Norkamal.
The prize-giving ceremony was officiated by Morshidi Fredrick, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, Sarawak.
The event also celebrated the winners in other categories, including the Baker, Trios Long Squad, Short Squad, Under-21 Youth Champion, and Youth All-Events.
Amateur Tenpin Bowling Association of Sarawak (ABAS) president, Sunny Sim Poh Heng, in his welcoming speech expressed his gratitude to all the participants, especially the teams from Brunei, for their continued support of this biennial event.
He highlighted that the competition served as an important stepping stone for teams to sharpen up their skills – to accommodate the demands for bigger and competitive future competitions.
“This tournament will prove to be a crucial experience for the teams as they prepare themselves for the IBF World Junior Tenpin Bowling Championship 2026, which will also be held right here at Megalanes Sarawak, Batu Kawa,”he added.
Sim also expressed his excitement for the upcoming Sarawak International Tenpin Bowling Open Championship 2025 in September and eagerly awaited the highly anticipated IBF World Junior Tenpin Bowling Championship 2026, where eager young bowlers from across the globe will compete at the highest level.
