KOTA SAMARAHAN: The persistent issue of low water pressure in Taman Samarindah is expected to be resolved with the construction of a high-level water tank, backed by an approved allocation of approximately RM30 million from the state government.
Stakan assemblyman, Datuk Hamzah Brahim, said the project has completed the tender stage and is currently in the process of appointing a contractor.
He noted that Taman Samarindah is among the largest residential areas in Sarawak, with more than 5,000 housing units, resulting in significant strain on the water supply system, particularly during peak usage.
“The main issue we cannot avoid is low water pressure due to excessive usage. Therefore, at the service centre level, together with the state government, we have taken proactive steps to address this matter.
“Alhamdulillah, the allocation has been approved for the construction of the high-level water tank, and we expect implementation to commence this year,” he said during Stakan Hari Raya open house at Stakan Service Centre Campus Hub today.
At the same time, Hamzah revealed that discussions have been held with the relevant ministry led by Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, to explore short-term solutions.
He said a proposal to install a temporary water tank is currently being studied as an interim measure to alleviate the low-pressure problem while awaiting completion of the main project.
“They have responded positively to the proposal and are now conducting a study. We hope this effort will help reduce the difficulties faced by residents,” he added.
He further said that the site for the high-level water tank has already been identified, which is expected to expedite the implementation process.
Hamzah expressed optimism that both the short-term and long-term measures would bring relief to residents affected by the water pressure issue in Taman Samarindah.
