LUNDU: An early morning bid to smuggle four Indonesians into Sarawak, ended in handcuffs yesterday (Apr 26).
Based on gathered intelligence, the Sarawak Immigration Department’s security monitoring and enforcement unit (UPKP) sprang their trap in Kampung Biawak to shut down the illegal attempt.
At around 6 am, the team struck fast and intercepted a Perodua Alza before it could vanish into the backroads.
Behind the wheel, a local man sat nervously as officers uncovered his “illegal cargo” — three men and a woman — all of whom are undocumented.

It was understood that the foreigners had paid RM1,000 for the transportation service (RM250 per person) — a chance to slip past the border under the radar.
All of them, including the local man, were arrested and handed over to the police for further action.
The Immigration Department has since issued a blunt warning: those caught violating the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966, Immigration Regulations 1963, and the Anti-Smuggling of Persons and Anti-Trafficking in Migrants (ATIPSOM) Act 2007, will face the full force of the law.
Harbouring or hiring undocumented migrants will not be tolerated either.
