SRI AMAN: The Sarawak government is firmly committed to supporting the advancement of high-technology agriculture, particularly in the pineapple sector, which is now regarded as one of Sarawak’s high-potential commodities.

In stating this, Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang stressed the need to adopt modern agricultural practices as a means to enhance productivity and uplift the livelihoods of farmers.

“Courses such as this not only empower participants with essential knowledge on crop technology, but also open up opportunities for more sustainable income generation at the grassroots level,” he said.

Mong said this at the closing ceremony of the Pineapple Crop Technology Management Course here today.

The two-day intensive training programme, jointly organised by the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) Sarawak and Sarawak Skills, was held from July 3 to 4 at Hotel Seri Simanggang and the Selopong Brangan Pineapple Plantation here.

A total of 100 participants, comprising local pineapple farmers and entrepreneurs from Selopong and surrounding areas, took part in the course.

The programme included both theoretical and practical components, covering modern planting techniques, fertiliser management, pest control, commercial pineapple processing, market opportunities, and agricultural branding strategies.

The programme reflects the close collaboration between government agencies and technical training institutions in strengthening Sarawak’s agricultural sector.

It aligns with the broader agenda of rural development and the economic empowerment of farming communities across the state.
