MIRI: Kelab Sukan Highlanders (KSH) marked a major milestone when it hosted the Closing Dinner for its 25th Games Carnival at the FORUM Cultural Centre here, attended by over 780 guests from across Sarawak and beyond.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, who commended KSH for its unwavering commitment to promoting sports and unity among the Highlanders community.

Gerawat, who is also Mulu Assemblyman, congratulated the organising committee for successfully bringing together 10 contingents from Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu as well as towns and villages across Sarawak to participate in 14 sporting events, including traditional games.

“KSH has come a long way since its registration in 1987,” said Gerawat.

He said this during his speech at Kelab Sukan Highlanders 25th Games Carnival Dinner 2025 at FORUM Cultural Centre on Monday.

“I helped the founding President, the late Harry Morley Laung, to draft its constitution so our footballers could participate in the local Miri league.

“The fact that this carnival has been held consistently for 25 years is an outstanding achievement and speaks volumes about the dedication of KSH’s leaders past and present,” he said.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining community cohesion in the face of rising materialism and individualism.

Gerawat lauded the involvement of the younger generation in the carnival, calling it a positive sign that the community’s heritage, sports culture and unity are still being preserved.

He also highlighted the potential of sports as a career path and urged KSH to connect talented athletes with academies and scholarship opportunities.

He also announced a RM30,000 contribution from his MRP fund to support this year’s carnival, in addition to raising RM28,000 from private sponsors for the golf tournament.
