KUCHING: St James’ Church, Quop, one of the oldest churches in the Diocese of Sarawak and Negara Brunei Darussalam, will celebrate a historic milestone this year as it marks its 160th anniversary.
A Thanksgiving Service will be held on Dec 7 (Sunday) at 3pm at the church.
The Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute, Bishop of Kuching, will deliver the sermon for the momentous occasion.
The celebration carries the theme “Give thanks to the Lord of lords; for His steadfast love endures forever” (Psalm 136:3, ESV).
The service will feature a specially designed Order of Service reflecting on how God has guided St James’ Church through seasons of economic hardship, social change, and global challenges.
A symbolic 160-voice Anniversary Choir, comprising the St James’ Choir, choristers from St Thomas’ Cathedral, and other parish choirs, will lead the worship alongside the theme song “His Love Endures Forever”.
The Quop Cultural Team will present a cultural performance, while the Youth and Children Ministries, together with Vessel Church, will offer a dance and drama presentation.
The service will be livestreamed, allowing parishioners and friends from Sarawak and abroad to join the celebration online.
Congregants are encouraged to attend in their traditional and cultural attire as a symbol of unity in diversity and gratitude for God’s blessings upon the community.
The Vicar of St James’ Parish, Reverend Kebin Su-ur, invites all parishioners and the wider Quop community to join the celebration.
“This is a historic occasion that calls for joy and gratitude. As we look back on 160 years of God’s faithfulness, may it inspire renewed hope and commitment for the years ahead.”
Reverend Kebin also encouraged the Bidayuh community and members of the church to remember God’s guidance ‘from darkness into light’.
“We celebrate not only our past, but our calling to be a blessing to others.”
