KUCHING: The newly-completed UNIFOR Complex is set to host its inaugural event, the Sarawak Neurosurgery Conference 2025 on Aug 2, marking a major milestone for the state’s interfaith and charitable development efforts.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian said the final inspection of the convention facilities was recently conducted ahead of the event, which will be the first ever held at the state-of-the-art complex.

“The UNIFOR Complex symbolises a new chapter in Sarawak’s commitment to inclusivity and religious harmony. We are proud to see it coming to life with its first major programme,” he said in a Facebook post.

Constructed with a grant of RM70 million and situated on three acres of prime state land in Kuching, the complex is fully owned by the UNIFOR Charitable Trust (UNIFORCT).

The land was contributed by the Sarawak government, underscoring its continued support for faith-based and charitable initiatives.

UNIFORCT, which convened a board of trustees meeting in conjunction with the inspection, was established in 2018 under the Sarawak Charitable Trust Ordinance 1994.

It operates independently from UNIFOR, the state government agency responsible for non-Islamic religious affairs.

“This is not just a government project, it reflects Sarawak’s unique model of public-private cooperation and our steadfast belief in unity through diversity,” Dr Sim added.

The UNIFOR Complex is expected to serve as a hub for interfaith engagement, charitable activities, and community development programmes in the years to come.
