KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Leong Islamic Bank (HLISB) distributed a total of 1,000 buka puasa (breaking-of-fast or iftar) meals to Foodpanda delivery riders as part of its ‘Senyum-Senyum Ramadhan’ initiative.

The initiative aims to recognise the dedication of riders who continue working tirelessly throughout the fasting month.

The meal distribution took place at the bank’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya, where teams from HLISB and Hong Leong Bank (HLB) joined representatives from Foodpanda to personally hand out the meals.

Additionally, HLISB sponsored iftar meals for more than 300 riders and their families across Melaka, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, and Perak.

HLISB Chief Executive Officer, Dafinah Ahmed Hilmi, emphasised the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by delivery riders, many of whom continue fasting while handling numerous orders.

“Ramadan is a time for gratitude and giving back. These riders are unsung heroes, and we hope our gesture brings to them smiles and encouragement,” she said.

In line with its Raya theme of ‘Amal’, HLISB’s collaboration with Foodpanda forms part of a broader effort to promote acts of kindness – alongside encouraging good financial habits such as saving, investing, and protection strategies.

HLB’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, who also heads its CSR Department, Zalman Zainal, noted that the initiative reflects the bank’s ongoing commitment to community engagement.

“We aim not only to give back but to empower communities towards a brighter future,” he said.

Since 2019, HLB and HLISB have collectively contributed RM100,000 worth of food and essential items for their employees.

Staff members also regularly participate in spring cleaning activities at care homes to support underserved groups.

To further uplift the festive spirit, the bank recently launched its Raya campaign featuring brand ambassador, Alif Satar.

The campaign includes a music video titled ‘Senyum-Senyum Raya’, now available on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
