SERIAN: A late-night police operation in Kampung Seniawan led to the arrest of two men after officers allegedly uncovered bottles of ketum juice believed to have been produced at the suspects’ own home.

The local suspects, aged 34 and 53, were taken into custody by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) on Wednesday night.

Serian Police Chief, Supt Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian, said investigations found that the ketum supply was believed to have originated from trees cultivated within the compound of the residence.

Also seized from them was seven bottles containing suspected ketum juice.

“The duo is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952 for possession of ketum juice.

“Upon conviction, they may face a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both,” he said.

Freddy called on the public to continue reporting information on drug-related activities to assist police in curbing substance abuse and drug-related crimes in the district.

He added that police would not compromise with drug traffickers and repeat offenders, warning that those prosecuted under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 could face between five and seven years’ imprisonment and up to three strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
