KUCHING: Karuna (Sarawak) Enterprise Sdn Bhd has become one of Sarawak’s few homegrown technology firms to meet both national and international standards, securing ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certifications while holding Malaysia Digital (MD) Status recognition.

The Kuching-based company, established in 2009 with five employees and now employing more than 50, received ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management Systems and ISO/IEC 27001:2022 for Information Security Management Systems.

The certifications, issued by Guardian Independent Certification Ltd (UK), are valid until August 2028 and cover its ICT, mail, and data storage services.

Commenting on this, the company’s chief executive officer Melvin Ong said that these certifications provide measurable assurance to their clients and partners.

“They show that Karuna is not only aligned with Malaysia Digital but also meets international benchmarks in quality and security,” he said.

He added that Karuna’s MD-Status under Malaysia Digital affirms its position in advancing digital adoption and competitiveness.

Ong cited that the addition of ISO recognition further strengthens its credibility as one of the few East Malaysian companies recognised at both policy and international standards levels.

“The certifications form part of Karuna’s Performance-Driven Digital Mastery (PDDM 2026) strategy, aimed at measurable client outcomes, innovation, and regional partnerships.

“Recognition through MD-Status and ISO is not an endpoint, but a foundation. We will continue to build on this credibility as we scale towards our 2026 vision,” he said.
