KUCHING: A middle-aged man, believed to be homeless, was found dead in front of a convenience store at Mile 6, Jalan Lapangan Terbang here yesterday .
Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said the public had alerted the Kuching District Police Headquarters at approximately 1.15 pm about a man who appeared to be sleeping on the pavement of the location.
“Acting on the information, a team from the Sungai Maong Police Station rushed to the scene and found the individual unconscious.
“A medical team later arrived and confirmed that the man had passed away,” he said in a statement last night.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was unemployed, homeless and without any form of identification.
Based on physical examination, the deceased is estimated to be aged between 40 and 50 years old.
“The body has been sent to Sarawak General Hospital for a post-mortem, which would only be conducted once the deceased’s next of kin has been identified,” he said.
The case has been classified as a Sudden Death Report (SDR), and the police have urged the public not to speculate on the incident out of respect for the deceased’s family.
Meanwhile, authorities are appealing to anyone with missing family members, or information that could assist in identifying the deceased, to come forward.
