KUCHING: A homeless man who had been living on the five-foot way at Taman Riverview, Pending, here for nearly a month has received assistance to return to his hometown in Sarikei, thanks to efforts by Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Milton Foo.

In a Facebook post, Foo shared that the man, identified as Rantai Sagai, 59, from Sarikei, had previously worked at a welding company in Kuching but is now unemployed and without a place to stay.

“He told me he has four children, aged between 20 and 30, but has lost contact with them and cannot recall their phone numbers,” Foo wrote.

He also noted that Rantai may be suffering from memory loss, similar to a past case involving a woman in Kenyalang Park, although he remains physically fit apart from a limp caused by leg pain or injury.

Despite Foo’s offer to send him to a hospital or health clinic for a check-up, Rantai declined, although he mentioned occasional head pain and showed medication from Klinik Kesihatan Sarikei.

When asked what assistance he needed, Rantai said he simply wanted to return to Sarikei but lacked the means to do so.

Foo then purchased a bus ticket for him online, scheduled for departure at 10:00 am the next day, and community leader Kapitan Chung Chong helped arrange transport from Taman Riverview to Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal.

Before parting, Foo and his team treated Rantai to breakfast and packed a lunch of nasi ayam goreng, as he had not eaten in two days.

They also gave him a small cash token.

“We wish Rantai well and a safe journey back to Sarikei,” Foo added, concluding that the case is now closed.
