KUCHING: Hope FC took a significant step toward advancing in the Liga Bandaraya FA Cup after securing a 2-1 victory over Rayu Ville FC in the first leg of their encounter.
Goals from Adib Imka and Zuhayr Redza sealed the win for Hope FC, who dominated much of the match.
Speaking after the game, player-manager Bryan Cheong praised his squad’s discipline and execution.
“Good performance by the boys. We were a bit unlucky with the last goal, but we controlled the game from the start. That’s a testament to the players for sticking to the game plan,” he said.
Despite the win, Cheong emphasised that the tie is far from over.
“Yes, I’m happy with the result, but it’s only the first leg. There’s still everything to play for in the second leg, even with a one-goal advantage.”
The return leg is expected to be a tightly contested match as both teams fight for a spot in the next round of the competition.
