KUCHING: After a prolonged competitive break, Hope FC return to action this Saturday (June 27), with manager Bryan Cheong aiming to rebuild rhythm and sharpen tactical execution ahead of future competitions.

The Sarawak-based side will compete in the Muhazis Trophy Four-Cornered Tournament (Kejohanan 4 Penjuru Piala Muhazis), featuring a mix of local and Indonesian opposition in a competitive international-friendly setting.

Hope FC are one of two Sarawak sides in the lineup, alongside Muhazis FC, with both teams representing the state in a field that also includes Indonesian outfits, Ragam FC and Bigik Pinang Reborn.

The matches will be held at Cascara Arena, with all four teams competing in a compact format designed to provide high-intensity match exposure.

Cheong said the break from competitive fixtures has made the tournament especially valuable for his squad, who are eager to regain match sharpness and cohesion.

“I always have confidence in my players. They are a united group and they will fight for the badge,” he told Sarawak Tribune when met recently.

Cheong added that Hope FC will kick off their campaign against Indonesian side, Bigik Pinang Reborn, at 6:00 pm, stressing that the focus remains on performance and tactical growth.

He also noted that the tournament provides an important test against unfamiliar opposition.

“It’s a good test for us to challenge unfamiliar faces because we are so used to seeing the same group of players,” Cheong said.

He also highlighted the influence of coach Awangku Shahbuddin Pengiran Abu Bakar in refining the team’s tactical structure and decision-making on the pitch.

Beyond Saturday’s fixtures, Cheong expressed hope that more regular competitions will be made available, stressing the importance of consistent match exposure for player development and long-term progress.
