Jaul’s plywood house is not secure and has always been broken into by thieves.

KUCHING: Kuching Hope Place recently received a call from a good samaritan requesting to help a very sick father of one toddler.

The suject concerned Jaul ak Azis, 34, has been suffering after an appendix operation since six years ago. After th operation at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH)  Jaul started using stoma bag.

According to a doctor at SGH Jaul would need to use stoma bag for one year only, but until now he has been using for six years already. Nothing has been done by SGH to relieve Jaul from using the stoma bag and because he has to carry the stoma bag around, it is hard for him to get a job or to be at work.

Thus far he had tried and attended interviews but failed to get employed.

Because of his health conditionJaul also cannot carry items weighing more than 10kg. Currently Jaul is part time daily paid worker earning between RM10 and RM20 per day. Each week he is able to work for two or three days. He also has to change his stoma bag every two or three days. But now that he has no stable income he therefore cannot afford to purchase the size 70 stoma bag that costs RM60. He needs at least a bag per week.

Jaul’s wife Liew Fui Ching wakes up early morning go around look for ferns for sale and at the same time has to look after their one-year baby girl.

Now they stay at a very small and simple hut out of plywood that houses a kitchen besides their bed. Jaul uses wood to cook because his gas stove was stolen. The house where the family stays now is not safe at all as anybody can break in easily anytime.

The house is also without water and electricity. All this time they have been using rain water to cook, to wash and to bathe.

For the families having children with special needs, or with elderly or disable people, they are provided with milk powder, oat and diapers as well.
