KUCHING: Local charity organisation, Hope Place Kuching, has distributed five wheelchairs to underserved individuals in the first quarter of 2026, continuing its long-standing mission to support patients in need.
The non-governmental organisation (NGO) recently handed over new wheelchairs to two outstation patients at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) following referrals from medical social workers.
Hope Place founder, Kelvin Wan, stated that the NGO maintains close collaboration with SGH, Bau Hospital and Serian Hospital to identify underprivileged patients who lack the resources for essential medical equipment.
Among the latest recipients is Larry @ Irie anak Lani, 56, from Lubok Antu.
Recently diagnosed with peripheral neurology and schizophrenia, Larry has been unable to walk since February and received his wheelchair while awaiting discharge from the rehabilitation ward.
Another recipient, 23-year-old Venthozick Dicole Vencent from Kampung Padawan Sidunuk, was provided with a wheelchair to assist his mobility following a severe motorbike accident in January that left him with a broken right leg.
Beyond mobility aids, the NGO currently supports 40 individuals with special milk supplements, and 62 others with disposable diapers.
Hope Place also provides items such as commode chairs, ripple mattresses, and nutritional supplements to those with chronic illnesses or disabilities.
Hope Place welcomes public contributions of diapers and special milk. For enquiries, the public can contact 082-505987 or 013-5672775.
Donations can be made directly to Maybank account 511289001160 or go to their Facebook page to get their Sarawak Pay / S PAY GLOBAL QR code.
