KUCHING: A middle-aged man was left with piling problems and misfortune after he was involved in a tragic motorbike accident.

Fu Ten Foo, 51, now suffers from mental illness and is unable to work, barely surviving financially while living with his brothers in Tapah.

“During our visit, we found Fu was unable to communicate much, but thankfully his sister who lives next door was able to assist us,” said Hope Place Kuching in a statement.

Fu was involved in a road accident back in June this year.

At the hospital, although he was not injured badly, doctors discovered that he was not mentally sound and referred him to Sentosa Hospital for further diagnosis.

He is now on oral medication for his mental state, walks limping and mumbles incoherently. Currently, he is staying with his brothers.

Fu used to work as a daily paid construction worker and lived with his wife. However, since he was discharged from the hospital, no one has been able to contact his wife, including Hope Place.

Even though Fu is still able to manage his daily ablutions but he relies on his sister for meals.

He and his two brothers live in an old dilapidated wooden house with a leaking roof, collapsing walls and dirty floor, which has been their family home for more than 40 years.

He is in the midst of applying for social welfare assistance.

Hope Place had supported Fu’s siblings and his late mother back in 2015 but stopped after a few years due to their better financial circumstances.

However now, Hope Place is once again supporting Fu with basic food aid.
