KUCHING: At 60, Augustine Vincent lives alone and penniless in Kampung Seratau, struggling with poor health and isolation after years of family estrangement.

Separated from his wife and children long ago, Augustine has no steady income, no savings, and no family members staying with him.

“Cases like Augustine remind us how vulnerable individuals can be when illness and isolation intersect,” said Hope Place in a press statement on Friday (Dec 26).

Hope Place recently visited Augustine at his home, providing food aid support to help him cope with daily necessities and ongoing health challenges.

Augustine is a recovered stroke patient, but his overall health condition remains unstable and requires continuous medical attention and monitoring.

According to his sister, Augustine was once found unconscious on the floor of his home and was hospitalised for a month in October this year.

Doctors later confirmed that Augustine suffered a half-body stroke and also has internal blockages in his brain, requiring long-term medication.

Although discharged, Augustine occasionally misses hospital appointments due to transportation difficulties, relying solely on family assistance when available.

Augustine’s sister, Paula, who is in her 50s, currently looks after him despite living in a different village.

Although she does not stay nearby, Paula makes frequent efforts to visit Augustine and ensure he has food, medication, and basic daily care.

Previously employed as a daily-paid construction labourer, Augustine is now unable to work and has no remaining source of income.

Hope Place continues to support Augustine with basic food aid to ease his burden and improve his quality of life.
