KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching, working in close collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, provided temporary relief assistance to flood victims across several evacuation centres following heavy downpours on New Year’s Eve that necessitated the opening of the city’s first flood relief centre.
The non-governmental organisation made its initial relief effort on Wednesday at Pusat Perpindahan Sementara (PPS) Kampung Sinar Budi Baru in Batu Kawa, where 44 families comprising 181 flood victims had been evacuated.

The contribution was received by Mohamad Fitri Zaizudin from the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
Subsequently, on January 1, Hope Place extended its assistance to several other evacuation centres, including PPS Dewan Surau Nurul Najihin Kampung Stapok, PPS AR Rahman, PPS Taman Malihah, PPS Sungai Batu, and PPS SJK Chung Hua Sungai Tengah.
Relief supplies distributed included children’s diapers, adult diapers, infant milk formula, biscuits and malt beverages.
The organisation also contributed to the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), which played a crucial role in rescue operations and transporting flood victims to evacuation centres.
Nor Hamri Hamdan from APM received the donation of drinking water, biscuits, and malt drinks at Hope Place’s office earlier this week.
APM works closely with Hope Place in disaster relief operations.
Members of the public wishing to contribute to flood relief efforts may contact Hope Place or Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (PKHK) at 082-505987 or 013-5672775.
