KUCHING: Hope Place recently came to the aid of a family of eight whose home at Kampung Batu Gong, Mile 18, was gutted by fire, leaving them with almost nothing.
The fire, which destroyed about 85 per cent of their property, occurred last week around 5 pm. According to one of the victims, known only as Margaret, it began after an electrical trip occurred somewhere in the house.
“The family initially dismissed it as a minor issue, unaware that a fire had already started in another part of the house,” Hope Place said in its statement.
Upon learning about the incident through a concerned member of the public, Hope Place sprang into action, visiting the affected family earlier this week to provide temporary relief.
“Among the items distributed were basic food supplies including rice, cooking oil, dry noodles, and biscuits.
“Additionally, milk powder was given for the family’s six-year-old child,” Hope Place stated.
Hope Place was also informed during the visit that the Social Welfare Department had reached out to the family.
“The victims were further advised that they could obtain preloved clothing from the NGO’s Budget Store by presenting their police report,” Hope Place added.
Members of the public wishing to support the family or Hope Place’s ongoing efforts can contact them at 082-505987 or 013-5672775.
