MIRI: A pair of Oriental Pied Hornbills in Lutong has recently become a local attraction, showing signs of becoming more accustomed to human presence.

In a Facebook post by Jiwa Rakyat, the phenomenon has captivated many, particularly nature enthusiasts and wildlife photographers who are thrilled by the rare opportunity to observe and approach a typically elusive species up close.

The post quickly went viral, drawing numerous likes and shares from netizens who expressed their admiration for the birds.

Back in March, the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) reported a successful nesting season at the Piasau Nature Reserve, where a well-known pair of hornbills – Jimmy and Valentine – had successfully bred and become parents.

According to SFC, an observation was carried out on March 5 at 2:00 pm on the nest belonging to Jimmy and Valentine.

This success is yet another reflection of SFC’s continuous and effective conservation efforts to sustain healthy breeding grounds for Oriental Pied Hornbills in Sarawak, especially within urban green spaces.
