MIRI: Hornbill Sports unveiled six state-of-the-art pickleball courts at MYY Mall here, marking a significant development in the city’s recreational landscape.

Situated on Level 4 of the popular shopping centre, the new courts further cement Miri’s status as the birthplace of pickleball in Malaysia, a title that reflects the city’s growing contribution to the sport’s development in the country.

Pickleball, a fast-paced and accessible sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, has quickly become a global phenomenon.

Its popularity is surging in Malaysia, with these new courts providing an exciting opportunity for players of all ages and abilities to engage with the sport.

In collaboration with Odysportsz, Malaysia’s leading pickleball equipment producer, Hornbill Sports will also host weekly introductory sessions and open social play events.

Designed to welcome players of all skill levels—from complete beginners to seasoned enthusiasts—these sessions aim to foster an inclusive and vibrant pickleball community in Miri.

The sessions, which will run every Friday and Saturday evening from 6pm to 9pm will launch on Dec 20 this year.

The accessible times and convenient location make it easy for players from all walks of life to get involved.

Farrell Choo, a representative from Odysportsz, commented on the partnership: “Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports globally, and we are incredibly proud that Miri is recognised as the birthplace of pickleball in Malaysia.

“Through this collaboration with Hornbill Sports, we hope to make the sport accessible to all, irrespective of age or experience. Our goal is to create a welcoming space where people can connect, have fun and contribute to a thriving pickleball community.”

The introduction of these courts will provide a much-needed hub for pickleball enthusiasts, encouraging fun, fitness and friendship.
