KUCHING: Sarawak Hornbills Mixed finished as runners-up behind Malaysia Tapir at the Sarawak Ultimate Open (SUO) 2025, held over the weekend at Field C, and D Petra Jaya.
The Hornbills began their Group A campaign with a solid 11–7 victory over Brunei Darussalam’s Troopers, followed by a convincing 12–3 win against Hawk Tuak.
Their dominance continued with a 13–0 rout of Singapore’s Disc Knights, a 13–2 victory over Sarawak Airline Mixed, and a commanding 13–1 win against Ultras Ultimate Mixed from Malaysia.
In the semi-finals, Sarawak Hornbills Mixed edged out Australian side Sublime in a tightly contested 11–9 match.
However, their impressive run ended in the final with a narrow 12–8 loss to Malaysia Tapir.
For the record, Lau Shi Ji of Malaysia Tapir was named Most Valuable Man Player, while the Most Valuable Woman Player award went to Joey Lee Kah Ming of Sarawak Maswings.
Sarawak Hornbills Mixed also took home the Most Spirited Team award.
Other individual honours went to Nicole Maher of Sublime, who emerged as Top Scorer, while teammate Kyal Oh claimed the Top Assist award.
The two-day tournament featured 12 teams, drawing players from across Kuching, Bintulu, Miri, Sibu, and Sabah, as well as international teams from Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, South Korea, and Australia.
Also present at the event was Sarawak Flying Disc Association (SFDA) president Eric Ting Tiew Yui.
