KUCHING: Consistent training and unwavering determination paid off for Hornetz SK Tabuan Hilir, who were crowned champions of the PETRONAS Youth Football Closed Tournament (PYFCT) 2025 Under-10 category after a year of steady progress and grit.
Coach Mohamad Taha Eber said the team impressed with a disciplined performance throughout the tournament, a clear improvement from last year when they failed to reach the semi-finals.
“Last year, we didn’t even make the cut for the semis. We finished fourth in the group after every game.
“So this year, we set a clear KPI to at least make it to the semi-finals.
“Step by step, we pushed through, and alhamdulillah , we won,” he told reporters on the touchline at Sarawak State Stadium today.
Hornetz sealed the title with goals from Afiq Asyraff Shamsul and Aqeel Zafran Moha Safarihullah, earning them the champion’s trophy and a RM500 cash prize.
According to the coach, there was no secret formula behind the win, just commitment to consistent training, even during the off-season.
“That’s all. We keep training, even when there’s no tournament.
“The students get used to the game and the feel of the field – and once they’re comfortable, they play with confidence,” he said.
The tournament saw strong participation from local youth teams, with Cascara Junior finishing as first runner-up and taking home RM300.
SSC Development Centre claimed third place after edging All Ways 1-0, with the winning goal scored by Muhd Aiman Abdul Razak in the 12th minute.
The event served not only as a competitive platform but also as a celebration of grassroots football development and sportsmanship among young players in Sarawak.
