SIBU: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has allocated RM7.8 million to address the issue of mould caused by condensation at Sibu Hospital.
Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad acknowledged that the problem has been recurring for a long time.
“In fact, we approved this allocation a day before my visit. We are committed to resolving this issue comprehensively so that the mould problem does not persist. This is our pledge—to ensure a permanent solution,” he said.
He said this during a press conference at Sibu Hospital’s meeting room as part of his site visit to several health clinics today (Feb 6).
The issues with mold and water condensation in the ward at Sibu Hospital have been occurring since 2019.
Dr Dzulkefly also announced an additional RM1.3 million allocation for the hospital, comprising RM900,000 for equipment and RM400,000 for project-related works.
Commenting on his visit, he said it focused on assessing the ministry’s response to the impact of flooding on healthcare facilities.
“I want to get a firsthand understanding of the condition of these MoH facilities in dealing with one of the worst floods.
“Although I did not have the opportunity to visit any temporary evacuation centres (PPS), what matters is that I can assess the situation and receive direct reports from State Health director Dr Veronica Lugah and others,” he added.
Earlier, Dr Dzulkefly visited several health clinics in the town including Lanang Health Clinic, Oya Health Clinic, Sibu Hospital and Sibu Jaya Health Clinic.
Also present were Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, and Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek.
