KUCHING: Sarawak is set to host a diverse array of events in May, featuring cultural festivities, international conferences, and sporting competitions throughout the state.
The month kicks off with the Gawai Bazaar 2025 at Aerowalk, Aeroville Mall, from May 3 to 11 here and at Summermall, Samarahan, from May 8 to 30.
Both events offer traditional food, crafts, and local products in anticipation of the Gawai Dayak festival.
Meanwhile, in Bau, the Pesta Tasik Biru from May 15 to 25 will feature cultural performances, traditional games, and community markets by the lake.
Music enthusiasts can look forward to the Cats City Oi! Fest 2025 on May 3, at ABM Bistro CIDB, showcasing punk, Oi!, and ska bands.

Classical music lovers will not lose out as they can attend The Bridgerton String Quartet Recital during a two-day event from May 23 to 24 at the Chemsain Auditorium, while anime fans won’t want to miss the Starwise 5th Anniversary Festival on May 25 at Starwise Saradise, featuring an international cosplay icon who hails from Miri.
Athletes from across the state will compete in the Sukan Olimpik Negeri Sarawak from May 2 to 5, a multi-sport event held throughout the state.
Traditional boat races will take place during the Regatta Sejijak from May 2 to 4, in Kampung Sejijak, here.
Adventure seekers can participate in Xterra Borneo Sarawak from May 3 to 4, held in Sematan, combining swimming, running, and mountain biking.
Additionally, the Kuching Heritage Race on May 10 offers a fun and educational exploration of the city’s historical sites.
Sarawak will host several conferences, including the International Cancer Research Symposium 2025 from May 14 to 15 at The Waterfront Hotel, Kuching, bringing together global experts in oncology.
The Halal International Conference 2025 (HICON 2025), a two-day event held from May 24 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, will discuss developments in the halal industry.
The International Resilience Symposium 2025 (IReS’25), taking place from May 25 to 26, at the Hilton Hotel Kuching, will focus on strategies for societal resilience.
Foodies can indulge in the Lapa Food Fest Bintulu, taking place from May 6 to 11, featuring a variety of local and ethnic cuisine.
