KUCHING: Student teams turned their proposals into campus festivals under Hotlink Uni Legends 2025, with events staged in Kota Kinabalu as well as Penang and Melaka.

Hotlink said the programme concluded with three university festivals delivered by student teams.

It said the winners were backed by funding, marketing efforts and mentorship.

Maxis Chief Consumer Business Officer Loh Keh Jiat said it was a proud moment to see the students’ visions come to life across campuses.

“Throughout this journey, we have witnessed the incredible growth and resilience of these students.

“We are confident that the leadership skills gained here will empower these students to innovate and lead in their communities for years to come,” he said.

Hotlink Uni Legends 2025 began in June 2025.

It invited students from public higher learning institutions nationwide to submit proposals for events capable of attracting over 5,000 participants.

Hotlink said 10 shortlisted teams later pitched their ideas to a panel of industry leaders at Menara Maxis.

Three teams were then selected as winners namely Team Gegaqsters from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Nibong Tebal, Penang; Team JSP UiTM Jasin from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Jasin, Melaka; and Team Jawatankuasa Perwakilan Kolej Sesi 2024/2025 from UiTM Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

The first event took place in Sabah where Karnival Kolej (KARKOL) Ke-16 was held at UiTM Kota Kinabalu from October 18 to November 3, 2025.

Hotlink described it as the largest carnival ever organised at the campus.

It said the programme featured 39 activities over two weeks.

The programme included the Golden Voice of UiTM singing competition where 15 finalists competed for top honours, including the Hotlink Choice Award.

In Melaka, UniXplode 2025 was held at UiTM Jasin from November 14 to 16.

Hotlink said it drew over 11,000 attendees across four zones: Tournament, Fun, Extreme, and Booth.

It said highlights included a 5km Family Farm Run involving 89 family teams. It also listed activities such as flying fox and ATV rides.

The programme concluded with Festival Gegaq25 at USM Nibong Tebal from December 5 to 7, 2025.

Drawing over 16,000 attendees, Hotlink said the festival featured performances by Bunkface and Sofazr.

It said the programme also included a Unity Run, sports competitions and digital skills workshops.

With the success of the events, Hotlink said the initiative had evolved from its 2024 focus on esports to embrace creative event ideation in 2025.
