KUCHING: Three individuals were left homeless after their house at Lorong Diplomatik Line 1 was badly damaged by fire last night (Sept 12).
The blaze, which broke out at around 9.45 pm, destroyed around 80 per cent of the permanent-structure house.
Fortunately, all three occupants managed to escape the burning house unharmed. No injuries or casualties were reported.
The heat from the fire also affected a neighbouring house, causing an estimated five per cent damage.
The Fire and Rescue Department said firefighters from Petra Jaya station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call.
Upon arrival, they found the house on fire and performed the extinguishing deed using water from a nearby fire hydrant.
The fire was brought under control at 10.15 pm, followed by overhaul works to ensure that there is no risk of reignition.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation 11.07pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
