BETONG: A house was completely destroyed in a fire at Kampung Baru Semarang here today, though all five occupants managed to escape unharmed.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said an emergency call was received at 12.55 pm, prompting firefighters from the Saratok fire station to be deployed to the scene, located about 76km away.

“Upon arrival at 2 pm, the operations commander reported that the fire had involved a small non-permanent house, which was destroyed.

“All five occupants, an adult man, an adult woman, two boys and a girl, managed to escape safely without any injuries,” they said.

It added that a nearby house measuring was also partially damaged.

The fire was brought under control at 2.05 pm, with initial firefighting efforts carried out by the Beladin Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS) with assistance from villagers using piped water before the arrival of the firefighters.

The operation was fully concluded at 3.10 pm. The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
