KUCHING: A housewife from Jalan Arang here lost RM150,000 after falling victim to Macau Scam.

Supt Mustafa Kamal, Sarawak head of Commercial Crime, said the victim received a call from a bogus Sergeant Wong, telling her she had misapproriated BR1M money of RM50,000 and that the authorities would freeze her accounts.

The victim then started sending money to the caller who promised to help her close the case if she paid RM150,000.

Mustafa expressed sadness that victims normally do not confide in others. He also urged family members to advise their elderly parents on such scams so that they would not fall prey. He said such victims are mostly from Sibu and Kuching.
