KUALA LUMPUR: A 50-year-old housewife from Perak has defied the odds of striking the lottery jackpot twice, winning it for the second time on Aug 1.
She scooped up the RM12.95 million Toto 4D Jackpot 1 offered by Sports Toto.
She claimed the RM12,946,225.55 prize after matching the winning pair of 5900 and 6900 in Draw No. 6165/26, held on Aug 1.
She recalled learning of the latest jackpot while her husband was checking Sports Toto’s live draw results on his mobile phone.
“At first, I thought we had read the numbers wrongly because it seemed impossible. Winning the jackpot once was already a blessing, but winning it for the second time is beyond anything I could have imagined,” she said.
The latest windfall follows an earlier jackpot win three years ago, when the same couple also struck the Toto 4D Jackpot 1 using a Lucky Pick ticket, taking home approximately RM1.4 million.
Despite becoming a multi-millionaire for the second time, the woman said she intends to remain prudent with the winnings.
She plans to use the money as a retirement fund while allocating part of it to support underprivileged communities and charitable causes.
“We have experienced difficult times ourselves, so we understand how much a helping hand can mean. I hope this blessing will allow us to give back and make a positive difference in the lives of others,” she said.
According to STM Lottery, the woman and her husband had been consistently purchasing Lucky Pick tickets over the past three years after both lost their jobs during the Movement Control Order (MCO) imposed during the Civid-19 pandemic.
The winner said the couple endured difficult times, during which she suffered from depression and partial memory loss. To help her recover, her husband regularly brought her back to places they had visited in their younger days.
One such trip took them to Sitiawan after lunch in Lumut, where they decided to purchase a Lucky Pick ticket at a Sports Toto outlet.
“Those were some of the hardest years of our lives. My husband never gave up on me and always encouraged me to keep moving forward.
“We never imagined that a simple stop during one of our trips would change our lives forever,” she said when collecting her winnings at the STM Lottery headquarters in here, accompanied by her husband.
